Voltage Divider Calculator

Vin → R1 → Vout → R2 → GND. Calculate Vout, or solve for R1 to hit a target voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a divider to power things?

No. A divider is for signals and measurements. Use a regulator to power circuits.

What resistor values should I pick?

For ADC inputs, 10 kΩ-100 kΩ totals are common: low enough for accurate readings, high enough to waste little current.

How do I read a 5 V sensor on an ESP32?

A 10 kΩ (R1) and 20 kΩ (R2) divider turns 5 V into 3.33 V, which is safe for a 3.3 V pin. For fast digital signals like I2C, use a proper level shifter instead.
