Regulators waste energy and batteries never deliver 100% of the rated capacity. 80-90% is a realistic starting point.

Sleep as much as possible: wake for a few seconds, send data, and deep-sleep again. Board choice matters: many dev boards draw milliamps even while the chip sleeps.
